  1. Barbs are small sized fish found in fresh waters of Asia, Africa, and South America.
  2. There are around 2000 known species of Barb around the world.
  3. They are also called freshwater shark because of the rows of teeth in their mouths.
  4. Their small size and bright colors make them a popular choice for household aquariums.
  5. They are very adaptive and can easily adapt to changes in pH levels and temperatures.
  6. Barbs lay numerous eggs, few of which, hatch successfully within a few days of being laid.
  7. Baby barbs are called fry and are also very adaptive to changes in their surroundings.
  8. Barbs are carnivores predominantly feeding on smaller fish, insects and blood worms.
  9. They are known to be ferocious hunters and dominant predators.
  10. Sometimes, Barbs are known to prey upon medium size fish also.
  11. Their aggressiveness doesn’t help them coexist with small or medium sized fish in an aquarium.
