  1. Boxer dogs are medium-large sized dogs, native to Germany.
  2. They belong to the mastiff family of dogs.
  3. They grow to be an average size of 61cm and weigh around 32kg.
  4. On an average they live to be around 11 years old.
  5. Originally, they were a docked and cropped breed whose ears were cropped and tails were docked.
  6. This has been rightly prohibited in many countries by veterinary associations, animal rights groups and general public.
  7. They are very intelligent and have a lot of characteristics of the working breed.
  8. This makes them unresponsive to training based on corrections, giving them a reputation of being headstrong.
  9. They respond best to positive reinforcement training techniques which allow them to think independently.
  10. It is also best to train them from a very early age as they have an independent nature.
  11. They are extremely good with children and are a bright, energetic and playful breed.
  12. As active dogs, they require adequate exercise to prevent chewing and digging as a result of boredom.
