  1. The octopus group belongs to the cephalopod family making up a third of their population.
  2. There are around 300 species of octopus found across all the oceans of the world.
  3. They often have a sharp beak and eight arms.
  4. Their arms have circular sucker pads on them.
  5. The lifespan of the octopus varies from a few months to a few years and depends upon the species
  6. The octopus is very good at disguising and camouflages against its predators.
  7. Interestingly, for the males, disguising is a part of mating display to attract the females for mating.
  8. They have three hearts- one to pump pale blood through the body, and the rest two to pump blood through the gills.
  9. They are invertebrates with no internal or external skeleton.
  10. An octopus is thought to be one of the most intelligent animals which uses its intelligence for its elaborate disguise.
  11. They are omnivores feeding on sea plants and sea animals like crabs, fish and scallops
  12. Their predators include Eels, Sharks and dolphins.
