  1. Giraffes are long-necked hoofed animals found in the woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa.
  2. There are around 9 sub species of giraffe which are recognized till date.
  3. They have extremely long necks making them the longest land animals on earth.
  4. They are white in color with brown markings covering their whole body except their lower legs.
  5. The markings on their body are unique to the individuals and also vary according to the species.
  6. They have exceptional eyesight assisted by their height and big eyes.
  7. They have the greatest range of vision for all land animals, which also helps them to be alert of their predators.
  8. They are herbivores feeding on leaves and vegetation well above the ground.
  9. Interestingly, the male giraffes are known to feed at higher levels leaving the slightly lower vegetation for the females.
  10. Giraffes have their natural predators in lions, leopards and Hyenas.
  11. They are a major tourist attraction and are most sought after on safaris.
  12. A few of the Giraffe species are threatened from extinction whereas others are quite stable.
