  1. Beetles are small sized invertebrates found all across the world except the polar regions.
  2. There are more than 350,000 species of beetles noted so far.
  3. Almost 40% of all insects are classified as beetles.
  4. They are found in various shapes and sizes.
  5. Their body mainly comprises of their head, abdomen and thorax -all covered by a hard shell.
  6. Their antennae, made of 10 sections, helps them understand their surroundings.
  7. They play a vital role in their ecosystem by consuming carbon dioxide and nitrogen from debris.
  8. Beetles are omnivores feeding on plants, fungi and plant and animal debris.
  9. Some of the bigger beetles are known to eat small birds and mammals.
  10. There are some bark boring beetles which burrow themselves in wood and feed on wood dust.
  11. They have numerous predators in other insects, reptiles, birds, fish and mammals.
  12. Although the predators differ according to the species of beetles.
