  1. Frilled Lizards are large lizards found in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
  2. They are also known as the Frill-necked Lizard and the Frilled Dragon.
  3. They inhabit the humid, tropical Jungles and forests of Australia and surrounding islands.
  4. They get their name from the large fold of skin on top of their head.
  5. Usually, the old, stays folded against their head but it fans out when the frilled lizard feels threatened.
  6. That makes the frilled lizards to appear intimidating and larger than it actually is.
  7. They spend most of their lives on trees and lead an arboreal life.
  8. They are a large species growing between 60cm and 100cm in length.
  9. They have a long tail and are known to have very sharp claws which help them in climbing trees.
  10. They are omnivores feeding primarily on insects, rodents, spiders and small reptiles.
  11. They have their natural predators in large snakes, owls, dingoes, foxes and birds of prey.
  12. The frilled lizards breed at the start of the wet season and the female lays around 25 eggs in a burrow.
  13. The eggs buried by the female hatch after a few months.
