  1. Monte Iberia Eleuth is a species of small frog found in the woodlands near Mount Iberia.
  2. They are the second smallest species of frog in the world and grow to an average size of less than 1cm.
  3. They are only found in two remote areas in Cuba and need very specific conditions to survive.
  4. They need to have high humidity levels with poorly drained soil in closed rainforest area.
  5. They were first discovered in 1996 and are a critically endangered species.
  6. Distinctively, they have bright yellow stripes running along their black body.
  7. They have fewer teeth than other frogs and have a very high pitched voice.
  8. Surprisingly, they feed on moths, spiders, insects and other semi-aquatic invertebrates, despite their tiny size.
  9. They have numerous natural predators in larger frogs, birds, rodents and lizards.
  10. Their reproduction and metamorphosis is similar to other frogs except that they lay fewer eggs because of their size.
  11. Since they lay fewer eggs, they reproduce slowly and take time to multiply.
  12. They are also extremely sensitive to changes in their environment.
  13. Deforestation, increase in pollution and their heightened sensitivity to these changes have made them a critically endangered species.
