  1. Boykin spaniels are medium sized dogs, native to North America.
  2. They belong to the family of gun dogs.
  3. They grow to an average size of 46cm and weigh around 17kg.
  4. On an average, they live to be around 16 years old.
  5. They are working dogs with great enthusiasm, endurance and retriever instincts.
  6. They are excellent upland hunters and make for wonderful gun dogs.
  7. They are always bright and are able to easily substitute ball retrieving for bird retrieving.
  8. They are excellent, instinctive swimmers and need to be exercised daily.
  9. They are ideal sized dogs which can be taken in small boats while hunting marsh and flooded timber.
  10. They are not suitable to be taken in colder climates for duck hunting unless they are weather trained and protected.
  11. They are known to be very good with children, sometimes better than Cocker spaniels.
  12. They need to be groomed at least on a weekly basis to keep their coat from matting.
  13. They need to be obedience trained from a very early age.
