  1. The Basenji Dogs originate in the African country of Zaire.
  2. They belong to the South Hound family of dogs.
  3. At an average size of 41 cm they weigh around 24 lbs.
  4. They may be brown, tan, black, white or gold in color.
  5. On an average, they live to be around 12 years old.
  6. The female Basenji dog gives birth to around 5 puppies per litter.
  7. They are known to be alert, affectionate, energetic and curious.
  8. Their independent nature requires them to be trained from a very early age.
  9. They make great pets and can form strong bonds with people.
  10. They are very intelligent and are known to get their own way.
  11. They are somewhat aloof and can be reserved with strangers.
  12. Interestingly, they clean themselves like cats and do not bark.
  13. They make a low, liquid ululation instead of barking.
  14. They are known to be active, speedy, tireless at play and relatively silent.
