  1. Monkeys are mainly classified as the old world monkeys and the new world monkeys.
  2. The old world monkeys are the ones found in Asia and Africa.
  3. The new world monkeys are the ones found in South America.
  4. Monkeys are found in the forests and jungles of southern hemisphere.
  5. There are around 260 species of monkeys found across the world.
  6. Depending on the species the monkeys can grow from a few cm to a meter tall.
  7. The old world monkey and the new world monkeys look quite different from each other.
  8. Interestingly, Monkeys use, facial expressions, body movements and noises to communicate.
  9. They express affection to each other through grooming and grinning is a sign of aggression for them.
  10. They express their anger or tiredness by yawning.
  11. The howler monkey is the loudest of the monkey species, with its howl being heard 10 miles away.
  12. Some species of monkeys have been trained by some organizations to assist quadriplegics.
  13. Monkeys mainly feed on foliage, nuts, fruits, berries and insects etc.
  14. Strangely, monkeys are known to always peel a banana before eating it.
