  1. Japanese Chin are a breed of small sized dogs, which belong to the herd group of dogs.
  2. As their name suggests they are breed to have originated in Japan.
  3. They grow to an average size of 25cm and weigh around 4kg.
  4. On an average, they live to be around 14 years old.
  5. Interestingly, they are considered to be a breed of dogs that is most cat-like in attitude.
  6. Their preference to rest on high surfaces and walking on a table without dislodging anything are a couple of their cat-like traits.
  7. It is not uncommon for their owners to find them in some of the most surprising places.
  8. They are also known to use their paws to clean their face.
  9. They are extremely alert, intelligent and independent dogs.
  10. They are loyal and loving to their owners and make great companion dogs.
  11. They are quite happy to see people and their ability to love people often helps in their use as therapy dogs.
  12. Although they prefer familiar surroundings, they are known to do well in new situations.
  13. They need to be socialized from a very early age for them to be emotionally well balanced
  14. This also helps in their being accepting of new people and situations.
  15. Despite this, few of them may be wary and suspicious of strangers.
