  1. The African Wild Dog is found across sub-Saharan Africa.
  2. They are also known as the Painted Dogs because of their brightly mottled fur.
  3. The fur may have various colors and is known to be unique for each dog.
  4. They differ from other dogs in having only four toes instead of five on each foot.
  5. Their long intestines are very long for increased absorption of water from their food.
  6. It helps them in surviving without water for long, in arid Africa.
  7. They are incredibly sociable with their pack size going up to 30 dogs.
  8. With only one breeding pair, leading the pack, they follow a strict hierarchy.
  9. The female dog gives birth to 2 to 20 pups after a 70-day gestation.
  10. The pups are raised collectively by the pack for the first 3 months.
  11. The African Wild dogs hunt in packs and prey on large mammals.
  12. They kill their prey by chewing them when they are alive.
  13. They have very few predators as they mostly move in large packs.
