  1. The African Tree Toad is a tiny species of toad found in central African forests.
  2. They may be dark or light brown in color with white patches on its belly.
  3. Their semi-aquatic and tree climbing lifestyle is assisted by their specially designed feet.
  4. Their toes are long and thin with sticky round discs on the tips.
  5. On an average they grow up to 3.8 cm in length.
  6. Their natural habitat is Tropical or Subtropical moist lowland forests.
  7. The modern day African tree toads are restricted to taller forests, though.
  8. They spend most of their time on land but breed in water by laying eggs.
  9. At nights, these semi-aquatic creatures take shelter in trees from their ground-dwelling predators.
  10. Their skin color and markings help them camouflage in their forest surroundings
  11. The females lay around 200 sticky eggs in the little water found in tree cavities.
  12. The eggs are guarded by the male African Tree Toads till they hatch.
  13. The African Tree Toads are carnivorous, mainly feeding on insects, worms and spiders.
  14. They are known to catch their prey at lightning speed with their sticky tongues.
  15. They have their predators in fish, birds, reptiles, rodents and bigger frogs.
  16. Deforestation is assumed to be the biggest threat to the African Tree Toads.
