  1. Pikas are small mammals found all around in the Northern Hemisphere.
  2. They are closely related to rabbits and hares.
  3. Though they look like rodents, they are not related to rodents.
  4. Distinctively, they have a small, rounded body and do not have a tail.
  5. They inhabit the mountainous regions and rocky areas of places with colder climates.
  6. They prefer piles of rocks near meadows where there are fewer predators.
  7. There are around 30 species of Pika found in the world.
  8. Depending on the species, they vary in color and size.
  9. They are quite territorial and are known to communicate between themselves through whistles.
  10. They are herbivore, feeding on grass, seeds, thistles, weeds and berries.
  11. They are diurnal animals that actively feed during the days and rest at nights.
  12. Their natural predators are weasels, foxes, cats, dogs and birds of prey.
  13. The males and females of the opposite territories call out to each other during the mating season.
  14. The female pika gives birth between 1-5 young per litter after a month-long gestation.
  15. The female pika give birth to an average of two litters per year, though only the young from one litter survive.
  16. The young pikas, settle near their parents, once they are able to fend for themselves.
