  1. White Faced Capuchin monkeys are found in Central America and northern South America.
  2. These medium-sized monkeys are arboreal, living in troops of about 20 individuals on trees.
  3. They are also known as White-Headed Capuchins or White Throated Capuchins.
  4. They are named after the Capuchin friars whose cowls resemble the monkey’s head colours.
  5. They hold their prehensile tails in a rounded coil when not using them.
  6. White Faced Capuchin monkeys have a dark coloured body and a distinctive pale face.
  7. They are diurnal animals, staying active during the day and resting at night.
  8. White Faced Capuchin monkeys travel a lot and are not territorial by nature.
  9. They are omnivorous and eat fruits, leaves, seeds, insects, worms and small animals.
  10. White Faced Capuchin monkeys are known to groom themselves and each other as well.
  11. They are polygamous and male White Faced Capuchin monkeys mate with several females.
  12. Gestation period is 5 – 6 months and only one baby is born usually.
  13. Baby monkeys are dependent on their parents for many months till they become independent.
  14. Sexual maturity is reached around 5 – 6 years and courtship is initiated by females.
  15. They are noisy monkeys are communicate with squeaks, chattering, barks, coughs and loud grunts.
  16. White Faced Capuchin monkeys can live for about 16 – 40 years.
