  1. Tetras are small fish which are favourites in aquariums due to their attractive colours.
  2. They are found predominantly in the freshwaters of South America and Africa.
  3. There are about 150 different species of Tetras known to us so far.
  4. There are different types of Tetras like the Lemon, Neon and Emperor Tetra etc.
  5. Tetras are easy to maintain and rear as they are very hardy in nature.
  6. Tetras hear well thanks to bones that join the inner ear and swim bladder.
  7. They are also very inexpensive and look beautiful in planted aquariums.
  8. Optimal water temperature for Tetras is around 74 F.
  9. They are omnivorous and feed mainly on algae, worms and small s
  10. Tetras have many predators such as larger fish, eels, crustaceans etc.
  11. Tetras are known to have a lifespan of about 2 – 5 years.
  12. They find safety in numbers and are usually found in groups called schools.
  13. They are calm, peaceful, and harmless, usually growing to around 2 inches in length.
  14. Female tetras lay around 130 eggs at a time; baby tetras are called fry.
  15. They are not particularly threatened since they reproduce abundantly and thrive quite well.
  16. Tetras are social fishes and are an ideal choice for community and public aquariums.
