  1. The Cesky Fousek is a great hunting dog with origins in the Czech Republic.
  2. Pronounced Chess-key Foe-sek, the dog is named after Czechoslovakia and “fousy” meaning facial hair.
  3. An old breed, these dogs were in existence even before World War II.
  4. These dogs were nearly wiped out during political upheavals but have managed to survive.
  5. Strong and powerful, the Cesky Fousek is medium-sized and wirehaired with different coloured coats.
  6. Female dogs are called Ceska Fouska and they are smaller than males.
  7. They are excellent family dogs who are friendly and compatible with children and adults.
  8. Needing lots of exercise and space, the Cesky Fousekis unsuitable for apartment living.
  9. If these dogs don’t get their necessary exercise they can become fidgety and restless.
  10. They don’t need much pampering except brushing the coat and trimming the nails.
  11. It is a smart, loyal and protective dog but it’s also playful and energetic.
  12. The Cesky Fousek can live for about 12 – 15 years.
  13. The average litter size of the Cesky Fousek is around 5 – 7 puppies.
  14. Despite being hunting dogs they can be trained easily, settling into homes with ease.
  15. They are working dogs and can tolerate a wide range of weather conditions.
  16. They are also known as the Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer or Bohemian Wirehaired Pointing Griffon.
